Tuesday, October 14th, 2008In a recent study done at the University of Florida, the antioxidants in the acai Berry were shown to destroy cultured human cancer cells. This study was one of the first to investigate the benefits of the acai Berry.

It is important to realize the study was not intended to show whether or not acai berries could prevent leukemia in people. However, they were encouraged by their findings because as Stephen Talcott, assistant professor at the UorF said, “we are encouraged by the findings, however. Compounds that show good activity against cancer cells in a model system are most likely to have beneficial effects in our body.”
Acai is said to have an extremely high level of antioxidants when compared to other fruits. Brazilians have used acai berries to treat digestive orders in skin conditions for years. Companies to sell acai products say that it can help consumers lose weight, lower cholesterol, and gain energy. However, Talcott said most of those claims have not been tested scientifically.
